Our History

Our Little Peace of Mind, has a rich history in Advocating and helping Caregivers and it is were we got our start and we will forever be grateful. However the demands of caring for our own families means we make adjustments so Peace of Mind has gone in a different directions. Do not worry though, you can still get our products. Peace of Mind has partnered with a Non-Profit called Gimme A Break and you can still get a binders, guidebooks, and so much more you just need to contact Christy@gab808.org. "I volunteered to be a part of an organization that assisted families with special needs children. We would visit the family once a week and interact with the child so the mother/father could have a little free time to attend to personal projects, or just take a breather. When I was assigned my family and went to meet them and their children the mother gave me a folder and said I might want to take it with me so that I could better acquaint myself with their son. When I began reading the information, I was just overwhelmed at not the facts, but of the stories about their son. Things he liked or didn’t, foods he liked and didn’t like, his moods, his activities, pictures of he and his family and so much more. In a matter of an hour, I learned not only his doctor’s information, contacts and his health issues, but about his teachers, his family and his friends. I got a complete “big” picture of the entire child. When I went back I felt so secure and I felt like I “knew” him. I ask his mother about the special folder she had given me and she said she gave one to his teachers and doctors and others who might have him in their care and they shared my enthusiasm, even the grandparents loved the folder.

I never told his mother this, but I thought to myself, oh my, how this would have been such a blessing to me and my son’s caregivers and teachers and medical staff. Because you see I also was the mother of a special needs child and the mountains of paperwork I had filled out over the years with so many doctors, all his teachers, family caregivers who all had to told separately about what they needed to know in order to take care of him. The hours it would have saved and the security of knowing that they knew my son. Not just the medications, but really “knew” him and all by just handing them a wonderful folder."

Recently, I purchased one of Our Little Peace of Mind's notebooks. I have a chronically ill child with severe asthma and recurrent pneumonia. Often, I tell other parents with typical children that having a chronically ill child is like living in a different universe. Nevertheless, the notebook has been a lifesaver. All of my child's information is in one place and I do not have to worry about mistakes concerning communication with medical experts. In addition, the process is streamlined and accessible. Our Little Peace of Mind created a visual schedule for my son. They were very professional and took into account his age when creating it! After telling them what I rudimentally wanted, they came back with one that was even better than I anticipated. My son is able to easily follow his schedule without me there standing over him and feels like he is accomplishing something. I also am able to adjust his schedule day-to-day since things come up! I would definitely recommend using this company! As an occupational therapy assistant, I definitely will use them with some of my patients!
